His video channel is
called small engine shop at You Tube.
In this video I would like to share with you the well demonstrated cleaning of a carburetor from a older tecumseh lawn mower engine.
It is a good presentation and the only thing I can add is that the newer carburetor do
have more plastic in them . The float adjustments are not nessary but if it has a tang then
adjustment is needed. The rule of thumb with the inlet needle and seat is this, If the
needle has a neoprene tip then there is no seat in the carb. If the inlet needle is solid
then there is a neoprene seat in the carb. Please watch the video below.

Brought to you by http://www.smallenginesgo.ca

Learn small engine repair the easy way!

Air cooled Engines

Hello,
I found a video you did of a weed wacker engine tear down. It appears that you produce instruction videos as well. I understand that you designed these videos to make some income but I thought I might try and ask if you could possible answer one question for me.
I tore apart my bruchwacker engine recently and did not pay attention to whether the location of where the piston was (i.e. top dead center) and where the magnets on the flywheel where in relation to each other. Does the positioning of these two things matter...I assume it affects the timing of the engine. Am I possibly wrong? Can they be reassembled in any manner?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Marc
Hi Marc,
The piston position, is more for which way it faces inside the cylinder bore. In this case I don't think it matters so much. However in some 2cycle engines the piston will have an arrow on top of the head indicating the direction of which the piston is to be placed or faces inside the cylinder bore.
You want to watch where the ring end gaps are and where the small end of the connecting rod or the piston pin holes are located. You do not want anything crossing the open ports in the cylinder wall. The timing has to do with setting the magneto air gap that determines exact time for the spark to happen.
When you assemble, the key in the flywheel will position the piston in its proper place.
Carl romain
Your small engine specialist!
Testing your compression
Learn small engine repair the easy way!

Learning Small Engine Repair

Hi Carl,

Please keep in mind I have never worked on a mower in my life...

A friend of mine gave me a Yard Machine riding mower with a 14 1/2 hp briggs. The motor smokes really bad so I decided to take off a few parts for my Wizzard.

I took off the breather top, removed the two nuts from the carb but the carb would not move. I went next door (repair shop) and asked what I needed to do, the man explained and I took the whole breather off and took off the two remaining nut, the long threaded one.

It is nothing to you but I feel so good I did it myself, even with a little help from next door. Next I took off the battery and starter.

I may keep it covered up in my back yard and see if I can find another motor for it.

I don't mean to bother you but I wanted to tell you I am learning.

Your Friend

John
Learn small engine repair the easy way!

Small Engine Tune-up

A "Tune-Up," as listed below, would normally be performed on relalively new engines brought in for minor difficulties.

Performing these steps will either assure that the engine is functioning properly or will point out necessary repairs.

These steps are also covered in the Overhaul Procedure and will normally be performed as a part of the complete

overhaul.

STEP NO.

1. about it is that it is a very good demonstration and it is very accurate.
Leaving old gas stored in a lawn mower will result in gumming up the small orfaces and ruiening the fuel bowl itself.
The only ting is that leaving the carburetor attached like that makes it hard to set the fuel bowl height which allows the proper amount of gas to sit in the bowel for proper carburetor function.
Learn small engine repair the easy way!<img width='1' height='1' You might need to replace a spark plug, test the choke, or clean the carburetor. Even if you're a novice at engine repair, don't be deterred from fixing it yourself. Get out your manual and follow this quick and easy troubleshooting guide.

Brought to you by:
SmallEnginesGo http://www.smallenginesgo.ca
Learn small engine repair the easy way!

Small engines the weed wacker!

As you will probably notice in this video that wear and tear happens to all engines.
The most cause is just plain equipment abuse.
Things like general maintenance is required to insure longer life of an engine.
Proper oil mixture in a two cycle can be tricking because to much oil can cause the engine not to run properly or at all and to little oil can cause scouring of the pisten and walls.
Dirt such as dust entering into the combustion chamber causes a lot of scouring and thus causing blow bye.
Blow bye is when the the fuel is ignited under pressure and by passes the compression ring down along the cylinder bore!
The two cycle theory is like this!
When the piston is traveling upward towards top dead center, the fuel air mixture is being compressed for proper ignition. When this is happening at the same time new fresh fuel is entering the crank case( underneath the piston).
The fuel is ignited just before top dead center and the piston moves downward on the power stroke. The fuel then in the crank case is pressured and fuel travels up around the piston through the port slot that are grooved in, along side of the cylinder bore.
The exhaust port is located at such a spot that spent fuel escapes through the exhaust port just after ignition when the piston is on it's way down.
Ring end gap is a measurement to determine the wear of a piston ring. This is given by Manufacture specs. as a clearance between. The pin is there to position the gap so it does not interfere with the operation of piston movement with in the cylinder bore.
<script
